A Duckling Story

One night on a family walk, we came across what we thought was a dead duckling. Because Joe and Luca are animal lovers, it was soon discovered that he wasn't dead, just very wet and very cold. With no nest and no parents in the vicinity, the little duckling was carefully cradled in Joe's hands for the two mile walk back...

...and when we arrived at home, this little guy...
...looked like this.

And so he was named Sven (or sometimes Olaf and even occasionally dubbed "Ducklin" by Court) and a box was rigged with a light and a heating pad for his comfort.

And this little girl fell in love.

She took him swimming,
played dress up with him,
taught him to fly
and tucked him in for naps.

Sadly, (and yes I know this is a horrible way to end a post) Sven Olaf is no longer with us. There was a car accident. And it's my fault. Luca has forgiven me. Mostly.

RIP Sven Olaf
You were a great duck.

Father's Day!

My kids have the best Daddy around. Yep. Pretty incredibly blessed.

After receiving this fashionable Duck Dynasty shirt from his favorite little girl...

And grilling up a scrumptious dinner...

We took our first trip to Morrill Hall:
 A sparkling, purple rock!

April 20-May 27...

Okay, so I am officially quitting the "Picture a Day" attempt, I'm just not committed enough. :-) But I do have a few random pictures from the last 27 days...
 Cheesy Court

 Story-Time with Luca "Reading"

This boy can down an entire carton of cherry tomatoes by himself.

Home Depot Day and my very independent builders.

 Daddy caught a baby bunny!
And these are the faces that appeared when the baby bunny was released back into the wild.

Mapping out the trails we'd like to explore on our upcoming trip to Estes Park.

"Training" for Estes Park. (Because Court Robert plus the carrier is an extra 40lbs!)

 A Sand Smoothie

A Sand Cake (that was apparently not turning out the way the chef wanted...)

Cubbies Awards Night with Isaiah and Noah.

 My Bean Girl

Time to fold the laundry...oh wait, no, story-time!

 Goofballs

 "Helping" Mommy plant flowers.

A sunbeam is a lovely thing to rest in.

 Practicing his "look"

Searching for any overlooked Vinca blossoms.

Most of my expectations for two-year old behavior come from what Luca was like at two which is why it did not occur to me that a preemptive conversation with Court about this pot and it's soil would have been wise. That plant was there less than half an hour before he had the Bobcat out.

 Run!

He was intently picking at something on his blanket and from afar I asked him what it was: "Booger" he says. Ew.

Luca's Zoo on the fridge (one of the words she can spell all by herself).

Our bedtime reading, the original Peter Pan. Luca has seen the play, owns the movie and we currently have the soundtrack on heavy rotation, she is a big fan! I'd never read the book before so it's been fun for both of us (although I have to edit a bit as we're reading because Mr. Barrie was not afraid to swear...), only two chapters left!
