A Play and a Project

Papa Chuck heard good reviews for Frog and Toad at the Rose Theater in Omaha and told Grandma Cindy to call up Luca for a play date (hehe). It was very well done, we had a wonderful time!
Luca surprised me by wanting to meet the actors and get their autographs. (That is Jennifer, who in addition to a bird, was also a squirrel, young Frog, and a turtle. Frog is sitting next to her. They were so good!)

Paper Mache: A long, long, project is finally finished! We saw paper mache animal heads in the Land of Nod catalog and both Luca and I were smitten. However, Land of Nod is not as affordable as it is beautiful and Luca really wanted a horse which wasn't a choice so we googled "paper mache" and called Noah over for a few fabulous craft days.

Luca helped crumple newspaper and tape them into random lumps until we had a decent horse face appearing. Court's only contribution to this part was the crumpling. He's a talented crumpler. Ready for the messy part!

My hands were too sticky to get many pictures of the flour-paste portion of the project but here is Court putting the first coat on his lizard. He was very excited about this process and followed directions well.

On to paint- Luca liked the stripes and shapes in our inspiration so I used painter's tape until we had designs she approved of and then she thoughtfully applied the three colors she chose.

Tada!

April 20-May 27...

Okay, so I am officially quitting the "Picture a Day" attempt, I'm just not committed enough. :-) But I do have a few random pictures from the last 27 days...
 Cheesy Court

 Story-Time with Luca "Reading"

This boy can down an entire carton of cherry tomatoes by himself.

Home Depot Day and my very independent builders.

 Daddy caught a baby bunny!
And these are the faces that appeared when the baby bunny was released back into the wild.

Mapping out the trails we'd like to explore on our upcoming trip to Estes Park.

"Training" for Estes Park. (Because Court Robert plus the carrier is an extra 40lbs!)

 A Sand Smoothie

A Sand Cake (that was apparently not turning out the way the chef wanted...)

Cubbies Awards Night with Isaiah and Noah.

 My Bean Girl

Time to fold the laundry...oh wait, no, story-time!

 Goofballs

 "Helping" Mommy plant flowers.

A sunbeam is a lovely thing to rest in.

 Practicing his "look"

Searching for any overlooked Vinca blossoms.

Most of my expectations for two-year old behavior come from what Luca was like at two which is why it did not occur to me that a preemptive conversation with Court about this pot and it's soil would have been wise. That plant was there less than half an hour before he had the Bobcat out.

 Run!

He was intently picking at something on his blanket and from afar I asked him what it was: "Booger" he says. Ew.

Luca's Zoo on the fridge (one of the words she can spell all by herself).

Our bedtime reading, the original Peter Pan. Luca has seen the play, owns the movie and we currently have the soundtrack on heavy rotation, she is a big fan! I'd never read the book before so it's been fun for both of us (although I have to edit a bit as we're reading because Mr. Barrie was not afraid to swear...), only two chapters left!

Memorial Day Weekend

Joe had to work on Saturday (and Monday) so really our weekend was pretty routine but we did get to go up to Omaha and tour the Junior High School that Joe's been working on for the last two years. It is only a couple of weeks from completion and pretty amazing.

Today:
On one of the "living roofs"
In one of the science labs- a fume hood. Very fancy and very fun.

In the Gym, Joe was telling the kids about the "Robot Chairs" (retractable bleachers) that he had and Luca was really excited but Court was worried. We were surprised because he loves the movie WALL-E and has a beloved robot shirt but the moment we turned them on he started trembling and repeating "Bo-bot all done!"
Here he was looking at the "Bo-bot" and saying goodbye from the safety of a window.

 Hooray!

After lunch with Daddy we headed home by way of the cemetery to put flowers on Grandpa's grave.

 And then we got home.

And they had more fun.
To wrap up our holiday weekend, we caught two garter snakes as they fled the lawnmower.
