Our first morning we headed for a short hike to test out the kids' stamina. Okay, we were testing our own stamina. We bought the carrier that Court is in when we lived in Arizona and Luca spent many an hour riding around in it. Our wonderful friends and neighbors lent us the pack Luca rode in and also had lots of tips on hiking with tots. This is the one and only time that I carried Luca. She is significantly heavier that Court! I like the way the blue pack fits my shoulders better but of course that comparison was done while the carriers were empty. Lesson learned. The weather was perfect and we were in high spirits!
A little snow, Luca thought that was amazing.
Up the boulders to the "perfect" photo-op spot
So beautiful!
And SO loud!

SO excited to be in the mountains!
Court was very excited too:
We carried the kids up and then on the way down Luca walked (i.e. galloped, skipped, bounced).
I love that there are "probably eight" trees on this mountainside according to Luca. Joe says that she wasn't too keen on the "dark forest" that might have "monsters or bears inside it" back in the trees so they came back to the trail. We had a running commentary throughout the whole hike. The rocks on this particular mountain were perfect for the kids to climb on being mostly smooth (easy on little fingers) and both she and Court had a blast when we let them go.

I thank God you have the inspiration, the energy, & the ability to follow through so well on "Field trips!" Blue ribbons to both of you & the lasting impressions this will be for Luca & Court.
