On our first full day we chose a trail that we attempted last year with hopes of making it farther and more specifically, to the second lake. And we did! We have two Super Hikers in the making.
This is Dream Lake, first stopping point on our trek. And it is dreamy.
Buddies.
The Conqueror
That beautiful, clear water was full of leeches...
...so of course Joe pulled one out for show-and-tell.
Luca scaled this by herself (with Daddy right behind) and Court tried too but we weren't as confident in his skills as he was and held on to him a lot more than he thought necessary.
And what a difference from last year. (It was snowing!)
Oh the views!
We made it! Nymph Lake.
And this is what happens when you ask a stranger to take a photo for you- her husband will sing the praises of her camera skills so your expectations rise and yet, what you end up with is 1/3 of the photo being your legs and rock and the top of the mountain cropped out completely. Oh well. Proof we were there!
A peaceful lakeside lunch.
And back down the trail.

Court and Luca hiked halfway up and the entire trip down and although (as you can see in this next picture) Court had a few near face-plants, they both made it down with nary a scratch.
Back to the cottage for much needed naps.
After everyone woke up we decided to take a gondola ride.
And although I would say I have no fear of heights...there is something about a little box suspended on a wire with no glass in the windows that is a little unnerving. I made Joe hold Court as he would be most likely to wiggle or jump unexpectedly.
The kids loved it and the view was amazing.
We may have cut naps a little too short for someone's liking...
...but he recovered nicely.
And back down- our independent little tourists led the way.
A very big day!

Brooke, these are fabulous pictures and some great blog entries. Thank you for posting.
Love Luca the conqueror! Ewww on the leeches and Ahhhhhh on gondola rides. ;o) I was never REALLY afraid of heights until becoming a mom . . . I think it was then that I imagined all the myriad ways each child could plummet to his/her death . . . And then there is Josh who I've heard as a kid got the gondola swinging when it stalled out over the Royal Gorge. It's no wonder I won't ride anything with him . . .
I would love to see both of those lakes though--so pretty (and just all around great lake names!). ;o)
